Main Snake Art
... this page is dedicated to my daughter...
This is my first snake...done in 2000 or so....inspired by some similar metalwork I had seen in Tubac Arizona. It is fabricated from 1/4" cold rolled mild steel rod that has been heated and bent. This one is finished primarily with nailpolish and a clear topcoat. Stands about 10" tall.
This is a "monitor " snake. Simply put, it is built to sit on top of an LCD flat panel monitor so that the curves in the front and the back drop just slightly over the edge of the case. It is built out of 1/4" cold rolled mild steel rod that was heated to cherry red and hand bent to shape. The tail was made by chucking the streight rod up in the lathe and turning the grooves. The head was built out of two pie shaped peices of metal cut from a flat washer and brazed to the end of the rod. Tthe fangs were made from two very small wire brads. It was then finished using various candy apple paints, nail polishes, spray glitters, webbing sprays, and of course lot's of clear topcoat. Measures approximatly 12" in overall length and the head is about 8" in the air. Sits on my sis's monitor at the UNF in D.C.
This image is the second "snake" I have done. It is also out of 1/4" steel rod and hangs in my sisters stairwell in D.C. About 4' long.
And one more page from a twisted mind. Site
